Background

The Patagonia Shanghai Dream Center Store, a building transformed from a century-old cement factory, not only reflects the brand's respect for tradition and its commitment to reuse, but also highlights its unique charm. This store is more than just a physical retail space for outdoor sports equipment; it also serves as a hub for the brand's repair services and community spirit. The entire project utilized UHPC (Ultra-High-Performance Concrete) as the curtain wall material. By conducting an in-depth analysis of the facade and employing fitting technology, while also considering multiple factors such as construction costs, ease of construction, physical performance, and aesthetic appeal, the project gradually optimized the design and ultimately achieved a balance between the aesthetics and cost-effectiveness of the curtain wall.

Project challenge

UHPC curtain wall materials need to be controlled throughout the entire process from multiple perspectives, including high strength, high stability, high durability, meeting diverse design requirements, and having a warm surface texture. For example, high strength requires a compressive strength of ≥120MPa and a flexural ultimate strength of ≥12MPa; high stability requires a shrinkage rate of ≤0.06; high durability requires that after 200 freeze-thaw cycles, there should be no delamination, peeling, or other destructive phenomena, as well as meeting diverse design requirements.

Solution from ARIT

ARIT UHPC material is primarily reinforced and toughened with non-metallic fibers, combined with high-whiteness ultra-fine cement, micro-nano active admixtures, organic nano-toughening components, special sand and gravel, and optimized with organic-inorganic high-performance admixtures. This formulation produces products with excellent fluidity, ultra-high strength, ultra-high toughness, superior crack resistance, and a fine texture.
