Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge

Background

Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge is a bridge connecting Suzhou and Nantong over the Yangtze River. It is the world's longest combined road-rail cable-stayed bridge and also the first bridge in the world with a span over a kilometer designed and built independently by China. The main tower of the bridge is constructed with C60 concrete, and the foundation is made with C50 concrete. The height of the main tower above the pier is 325 meters, making it the tallest in the world among combined road-rail cable-stayed bridges.

Project Challenge

Due to the main tower's use of a one-time pumping process with a vertical pipeline exceeding 330 meters, the concrete is required to have good initial fluidity (spread ≥ 600mm, T500 ≤ 8 seconds) without segregation, and the fluidity should still be good after 3 hours (spread ≥ 600mm, T500 ≤ 10 seconds).

Solution from ARIT

The project utilizes the self-developed viscosity-reducing high-performance water reducing admixture by ARIT, ensuring steady concrete construction quality and good appearance of the concrete and meeting the requirements for concrete construction.
